Dealer Fraud: Using Your Language Against You
According to the law in most states if a lease or a purchase of a vehicle is primarily negotiated in Spanish, then a car dealership is required to provide to the customer the Spanish translation of the contract. The dealership must provide this to the customer prior to signing the English language contract. If there is no translation of the agreement then there must be some waiver signed by the customer, which will clearly state that the terms of the contract were explained in the consumer’s language and that the car buyer understood it. The failure of the dealership to comply with this terms is considered car dealer fraud and gives the customer right to rescind.
